Tuesday Bee Keeper Visit

Oliver McCurdy came to school to talk to us about his work and show us his gear and equipment. The absolute highlight of his visit was a beehive with around 50 000 bees inside, scurrying frantically to continue the work of the hive. Room 23 wanted Oliver to open up the hive and take out a bee to look at, but Oliver thought that probably wasn't a good idea. We saw his protective gear and his smoker that makes the bees less active. We held some beeswax that gets scraped off the frames inside the hive and we even saw the spray that is used to get rid of the Varroa bee mite.

  1. Very cool. Finn talked about this quite a bit afterwards.
