Well done to Nafisa who received the certificate at our Ara Teina assembly on Friday.
She has been doing great writing and always shows respect by showing her 'super listening body'

Auckland Museum Trip
We had an amazing trip to the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
When we arrived we waited on some chairs, so we could be escorted to the Kai Room, where we had our morning tea. We were very excited.
In the Whare nui we were told the story of The Creation as the Maori believed and he asked us about the Gods and if we knew what their jobs were. He was very impressed with our knowledge. If you look closely, you can see how he asked us to put our hands tight together to represent how Rangi and Papa were together and then when Tane mahuta pushed them apart the children separated their hands to show them becoming the land and the sky.
Next the girls and boys separated. The girls went out to where the long waka was and got a chance to role play rowing and learnt a cool chant which helped them with the rhythm.
Next it was the boys turn.
The girls returned to the whare nui and sang a song using poi.
The next part of the Matariki experience was a story told by Manaia's Mum, Lois. The children loved it and then had a chance to decorate their own Matariki star.

Next we were escorted to the Maori area where we sat down on some stairs to listen to our host. She explained the expectations and told us we had to take off our shoes to enter the Whare nui. |

The last part was making a ika from paper. Which was very tricky, but many of the children did a great job.
After lunch we had a chance to visit the Moana exhibition which was very exciting. The children loved the 3D underwater movie and many deep sea fish in jars. They had a chance to look through microscopes and there was even large shark exhibits which showed the life size of these amazing fish.

Library Trip
Last Friday we had the perfect day for a walk to New Lynn library. We set off just after morning tea and arrived in perfect time. We sat down for an early lunch and then were met by the lovely Rachel who escorted us into the library.
